Ancaster limestone is a Middle Jurassic oolitic limestone quarried around the village of Ancaster, approximately 20 miles from Lincoln. This particular stone was sourced from the now defunct Lincoln Cathedral quarry on Riseholme Road in Lincoln.

Lincoln Cathedral have been buying in and using Ancaster limestone for some years now as their own Lincoln limestone supplies have proved inadequate for many of their restoration projects due to insufficient sizes.
